Hey! I'm from a village in England called East Horsley, and I have an Australian passport also. I love travelling and new experiences, and have lived now in 8 countries. I was living in Kyiv when Russia invaded and stayed there for a week in the war, it was scary ; ) I was teaching English in Kyiv, mostly to children between about 10 and 15, now I am in Warsaw. Hi, my name is Joel Bean- I am an English teacher and former musician from the USA, currently living in Warsaw. I am extremely passionate about languages/culture and how it can help us to develop a much wider understanding of every aspect of life and help to build meaningful relationships with other people. With this in mind, my goal is to be able to take in the culture, language, and perspective of others with an open and curious mind, and to also be able to teach and share my own culture, language, and experience through history, music, philosophy, and other disciplines. I want to be able to foster a sense of "cultural counterpoint"; that is, the ability to see the same basic object via several lenses at once, something which can be a direct outcome of the language learning process. If this sounds good to anybody, and you would like to become a friend, please don't hesitate to reach out- I would especially be happy to meet anybody in person!
I really love Steve Kaufmann and his respective methods in particular, and I would love to find others who share a similar enthusiasm for languages and in particular enjoy the process of learning. There are also several other polyglots/language enthusiasts whom I enjoy and I will be happy to name as well :)
My German is at a C1 level, my Spanish and Portuguese are just slightly below that, my Russian and Ukrainian are near a B1-B2, and I am at an A2/B1 with Polish (chcę teraz osobliwe ćwiczenie rozmawia po polsku, codziennie sytuacji już są trudno i też chcę dostawać egzaminu, mnie w poziom B1-B2 przez nastepująco trzy lata) I would, in any case, like to refine all of the aforementioned languages to an extremely high level (with the goal of at some point being able to pass an advanced exam for all of those )

I have always been interested in languages and devoted a large part of my life to learning and using Chinese (Mandarin). I spent 15 years in China, working there as an interpreter.
I visited Latvia last summer and was mesmerized by the language - very different from anything I expected, but with hints of hidden similarity to my native Polish (often misleading, but that makes it even more interesting). I started learning it and also decided to learn more about Latvia, and would love to find someone to help me become more proficient. I'm obviously a beginner, but quite eager to make progress. I offer Polish and Chinese in exchange.
