My name is William, I am 23 years old. I grew up in Queensland, Australia, and now I am studying Earth Sciences in New Zealand. My favourite topics are Antarctica, glacial mountains and ice. I love listening to music! I listen to a lot of it and I love sharing it. I enjoy being with my friends, reading, running and being outdoors. I hope to one day be a university lecturer, teach geology, or work as a scientist in Antarctica. (Ideally, both.) I am a beginner, but I will soon start an A1-A2 course. I am determined to learn this language, so I am really looking forward to getting started. My goal is to learn Spanish during my degree so that I have more opportunities when I graduate. Hey, I’m originally from England but I’ve lived in New Zealand for almost 10 years now. I’ve recently started learning Japanese, but I’d really like to be able to practise with someone to help build my confidence and improve my understanding of the spoken language (that’s the part I’m finding hardest). I’m still a near-beginner, learning hiragana at the moment along with some words, phrases, and short sentences. I’d also love to share my language and help others learn English. I like to keep fit, run a little, play golf, and I love movies, coffee, and food.

My mother tongue is Mandarin Chinese. I was born and raised in China, so I’m very familiar with the language and culture. I hold both an undergraduate and a master’s degree, and I’ve worked as a teacher in China. I also have a Chinese Teacher Qualification Certificate and experience teaching Mandarin to English speakers. I can teach patiently and skillfully, and I even know a bit of Chinese calligraphy. No matter your current level of Chinese, you’re welcome, so don’t worry! I’m currently living in New Zealand. I can speak English, but I’m not yet fluent enough to chat smoothly with locals. My learning goal is to improve my speaking and listening skills, so it would be great if you’re familiar with New Zealand culture. My hobbies include playing badminton, hiking, watching movies, reading, traveling, and learning about other cultures. I’d prefer to have voice calls at early stage, and if we feel comfortable, we can arrange to meet face-to-face to learn languages if possible.
